Liqui-Mark®, well-known for their high quality, innovative writing and drawing instruments, announced today the launch of a new line of school and office products that contain AgION® silver-based antimicrobial technology. The move is a direct response to the increased demand for products that are protected from microorganisms such as bacteria, mold and fungi.
Headquartered in Hauppauge, NY, Liqui-Mark was founded by Stuart Goodelman in 1974. Liqui-Mark office and school products including permanent markers, highlighters, dry erase markers, pens, mechanical pencils washable markers and colored pencils continue to be a leading brand in the mass retail and commercial marketplace. In 2005 Liqui-Mark started its Promotional Products Division that provides a large network of distributors specialized, customized products that are used nationally in promotions, marketing campaigns and corporate branding programs.
“Our new relationship with AgION Technologies is allowing us to provide the market with the kind of innovative products that are in demand today,” said Josh Goodelman, Vice President of Liqui-Mark. “The concern for a higher standard of hygiene in schools, businesses and the healthcare industry required us to look into manufacturing a line of antimicrobial products that fill the need. Partnering with AgION has enabled us to satisfy our customers by bringing them a terrific new product that provides protection against contaminants.” According to Goodelman the new antimicrobial product line will include fluorescent highlighters, dry erase markers, roller ball pens, permanent markers and washable markers. “The antimicrobial protection is built into the products during manufacturing and will last for the life of the product,” he said.
The AgION Antimicrobial Technology that is being used in the manufacturing process of Liqui-Mark’s new antimicrobial line of products combines silver ions with a crystal ceramic zeolite that provides continuous, safe and long-lasting protection from microbes by releasing silver ions to the surface at a steady rate. Silver is an age-old metal used for centuries as an antimicrobial to combat a wide range of contaminants. When combined with zeolite, which acts as a delivery system, the compound provides continuous, long-lasting protection by releasing silver ions to product surfaces. This not only combats existing surface bacteria, it protects against the growth and migration of new containments.
“This is a great time for Liqui-Mark to be offering a new line of product that contains AgION antimicrobial protection to the school and office markets,” said Stuart Patterson, CEO of AgION Technologies, Inc. “Kids are going back to school and businesses are getting ready for a busy time of year. We are delighted to be a part of the Liqui-Mark introductory launch of antimicrobial consumer products. Incorporating AgION technology into their new product line will help eliminate microbes from school and business environments effectively and safely.”
AgION antimicrobial compound has been shown to be effective against a wide range of contaminants, including bacteria, algae, and fungus such as mold and yeast. The antimicrobial attacks the microbes and prevents it from multiplying. The silver ions interfere with cell growth by preventing migration and interrupting metabolism. It is less toxic than table salt and listed by the Environmental Protection Agency.
